Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the Deadline Day
The famous Deadline Day at 11pm on the 31st of January is the transfer closing window. This is the last chance for transfer in the Premier League and other European countries like Germany (5pm), Italy (10pm) or Spain (11pm). This also is the end of the fight for the last change-willing footballers. Manchester United made the best deal as Arsenal Star goes to the Red Devils and Henrikh Mkhitaryan goes the other way.
Deadline Day for Arsenal: The Gunners are still hunting for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund. The final formalities seem to be done and the transfer sum is 63 million euros. But the official confirmation does not exist yet. That could last until the last second of the Deadline Day! Another club is also still fighting until the very last minute of the Deadline Day: Tottenham are trying to sign Lucas Moura from FC Paris Saint-Germain. Slowly it gets hectic, because only a few hours are left until the deadline.

Tuning into the BDO darts championship and you may think that you’ve stepped back in time, what with the competition not being as glam as the PDC tournament which has just finished on Sky Sports, but the BDO championship even is a hugely prestigious title. The BDO championship goes back to 1978 and can be seen live on Channel 4, but what is the prize money on offer and how many people will compete to win it?
Forty men and 16 women will take to the oche at the Lakeside club in Frimley Green, in the hope of winning the coveted trophy and the top prize – but the top prize fund isn’t the same for men and women, with a huge difference in prize money.
In the men’s tournament, the winner will take home a whopping £100,000 in cold hard cash, whilst the runner up will pocket less than half of that with a £35,000 payout. Semi-finalists will earn £15,000 and the quarter finalists will receive £6,500. Those who only mange to reach the last 16, will earn £4,500, the last 32 will earn £3,250 and the last 40 will pocket £2,000.
When you compare the prize money to the recent PDC World Championship, which saw Rob Cross beat Phil Taylor on his last ever performance, it is a lot less. Rob Cross bagged himself a £400,000 cash prize whilst Phil Taylor (runner-up) won £170,000.
When it comes to the BDO women’s tournament, there is significantly smaller prize fund on offer. The woman who wins the title of BDO’s Women’s Champion and the trophy, will earn just £12,000 for her victory, whilst the runner-up will take home £5,000. Semi finalists in this competition will earn £2,000, quarter finalists will earn £1,000 and the first round loser will earn just £500.
There are many matches taking place on Channel 4 for viewers to tune into, but the big dates for your diary should be the 13th January for the women’s final and the 14th January for the men’s final.
